After watching the video 'Cuts and Transitions 101' we put our knowledge of different cuts and transitions to practice and looked at this clip from the movie 'Inglourious Basterds'. Trying to take a closer look at not only the different shots but this time the
transitions used to go from each shot.
I noticed that when Hans Landa (Christoph Waltz) is first introduced the camera goes to Melanie Laurent's character (Shosanna Dreyfus) and then dissolves into what appears to be her memories showing her running from home. You can conclude from this transition that she has met Chistoph before due to the sudden flash back. Later in the clip Hans Landa is trying to talk to Shosanna alone, during this sequence the camera begins to slowly zoom into her face, the zoom shows the girl's eyes get bigger and her beginning to breath faster implying that she is frightened for what could happen next.
During the pairs conversation the director decides to make long cuts alternatively between the two of them, this suggests that there is a mixture of tension and awkwardness during their meal again bringing forward the idea that the two of them have met before. When the cream arrives the camera jumps from the cream to the strudel back to the cream, which again provides a sense that time is going slowly because we are seeing every movement in great depth, reinforcing the idea of awkwardness.
